Speech and Language Therapy services

Assessments

At FunctionAbility, we provide comprehensive, client-centred SaLT assessments for children, young people, and adults. Our assessments are designed to build a clear picture of an individual’s communication strengths, needs, and functional impact, allowing us to make practical, meaningful recommendations that support participation at home, in education, work, and everyday life.

Our assessments can be used to support EHCPs, education planning, private therapy programmes, or to provide evidence for reviews and legal processes.

We use a combination of standardised assessments, clinical observation, and functional communication analysis, always tailored to the individual’s age, abilities, and priorities. Assessments may include (but are not limited to):

Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF-5)
Assessment of Comprehension and Expression (ACE)
Renfrew Action Picture Test (RAPT)
Test of Abstract Language Comprehension (TALC)
Progression Tools to track communication development over time
CLEAR for speech clarity and intelligibility
Diagnostic Evaluation of Articulation and Phonology (DEAP)
STAP and STASS to assess speech sound development and structure
Pragmatics Profile to explore social communication skills
Renfrew Bus Story to assess narrative and expressive language skills

Assessment selection is guided by the individual’s presentation and may be supported by informal assessment, play-based observation, conversation samples, and real-life communication tasks.
